Oscar 2008: three nominations for Arcipelago shorts Print E-mail
Monday, 21 January 2008

Il supplente Unique Italian short film selected in the Short Waves international competition at ARCIPELAGO 2007, Il supplente (The Substitute) by Andrea Jublin will also represent Italy at the 80th Academy Awards, next February 25 in Los Angeles, in the "Live Action Short Film" category.

It's the third time in the prestigious trophy's history that an Italian short film achieves a nomination, along with Exit by Stefano Reali & Pino Quartullo in 1986 and Antonello De Leo's Senza parole (Wordless) ten years after. A brilliant "high school comedy" produced by Sky Cinema and Frame by Frame, during 2007 Il supplente was also selected at Sundance Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand's Festival International du Court Métrage, Aspen Short Fest and many other national and international festivals.

However, Jublin's work is not the only one, among ARCIPELAGO 2007 films, to get an Oscar nomination. In fact, in the same group of nominees also appears French filmmaker Philippe Pollet-Villard's Le Mozart des pickpockets (The Mozart of Pickpockets), while another French film, the 3D short Même les pigeons vont au paradis (Even Pigeons Go To Heaven) by Samuel Tourneux & Simon Vanesse, was nominated in the "Animated Short Film" category
